German manufacturing giant Krones is set to showcase a new line concept and digital platform at drinktec Munich 2025, reaffirming its position at the forefront of innovation in beverage and liquid food technology.

According to Raphael Weiß, head of digital product management at Krones, the new approach reflects lessons from drinktec 2022 and incorporates direct customer feedback into a redefined, collaborative model of line management.

In an interview published on the official drinktec website, Weiß explained that the new concept takes a comprehensive view of the entire lifecycle of a production line. It shifts away from traditional customer-supplier structures and towards partnerships focused on joint responsibility, with digitalization, sustainability, and technical efficiency as core pillars.

A key feature of the offering is a digital platform designed to enhance customer collaboration and create new business models. Full details will be revealed at the Krones stand on 15 September, at the show in Munich, where the company has secured 10,000 square meters of exhibition space.

Weiß noted that artificial intelligence (AI) is now firmly embedded in Krones’ operations. The company’s internal AI team is working across several strategic areas, including efficiency optimization, predictive maintenance, and the development of AI-based service models. AI is also being used internally to streamline processes, with a strong emphasis on combining machine insights with human experience.

“AI is not just a trend, it’s a transformation—even in our traditionally conservative industry,” Weiß said, adding that there is scarcely a customer meeting today in which AI is not discussed.

The company’s investments go beyond product development. Krones is establishing digital service centres to offer localized support in various markets, blending advanced data analytics with multilingual service delivery.

On industry adoption, Weiß acknowledged that while global leaders are driving uptake, interest in data-driven solutions is now widespread, including among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The application of AI varies by customer focus, but its relevance is becoming universal.

Asked about the conditions for successful data-driven value creation, Weiß stressed the importance of legal compliance and intelligent data collection. Compliance with GDPR and the EU Data Act is integral to Krones’ project planning, and the company places significant focus on purposeful sensor deployment and responsible data use. Cybersecurity, too, remains a top priority, with a dedicated team reporting directly to the CEO and supporting all R&D initiatives.

Looking ahead to the Data2Value theme at drinktec 2025, Weiß indicated that Krones is now capable of implementing data-driven solutions across the entire supply chain—from source to recycling—opening new pathways for customer collaboration and sustainability.
