The conference titled ‘Plant-Based Food: Capturing Avenues to Intensify the Food Processing Industry’, will provide a platform for leaders in the food processing and nutrition sector, nutrition practitioners, scientists, farmers, industries, organized agriculture sector, and civil society to discuss and share experiences on successes, and to deliberate the opportunities and challenges in ensuring food and nutritional security.

Minister of state of food processing industries Prahlad Singh Patel will be the chief guest at the event.

The objective of the conference is to make plant-based food available locally and globally; take an innovative approach keeping in mind a consumer’s food preferences and taste; to strengthen institutional and policy environments, processes, and incentives that foster appropriate forms of collaboration across plant-based food; promote government schemes that help and strengthen the food processing industry; empower Indian food industries to cater to the international market, etc.

According to Assocham, our food systems are highly animal agriculture-based and so diversification is needed to reduce climatic pressure happening from one type of farming system. The plant-based food systems, which are based on low-energy inputs, can reduce the environmental burdens caused by a high-energy input food system.
