West Bengal will get the world’s largest curd manufacturing plant under the Amul Bengal Dairy Project being developed at Howrah Food Park with an investment of approximately Rs 700 crore.
Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah performed the Bhoomi Pujan at the New Town Convention Centre in Kolkata on 19 July.
The facility will process around 10 lakh liters of milk per day and produce approximately 1,000 metric tonnes, equivalent to 10 lakh kilograms, of curd and other cultured dairy products daily.
The project’s proposed daily production capacity also includes packaging of 10 lakh liters of milk, processing of two lakh liters of UHT milk, production of one lakh liters of ice cream, 20 metric tons of paneer, 10 metric tons of ghee and 10 metric tons of sweets. In addition, the plant will be able to produce approximately 2. 5 lakh packs of flavoured milk every day.
More than 1.25 lakh milk-producing farmers in West Bengal, including over 30,000 women milk producers, will benefit from the project, a PIB release stated.
Amul’s cooperative movement is continuously expanding in West Bengal. At present, more than 1.25 lakh milk-producing farmers in the State are associated with Amul’s cooperative network. These include more than 30,000 women milk producers. With the cooperation of these farmers, approximately nine lakh liters of milk is being procured every day in the State.
The Amul Bengal Dairy Project will expand modern processing, value addition and marketing facilities in West Bengal’s dairy sector. It will provide milk-producing farmers with access to a better and sustainable market for their produce and help enhance their incomes.
Shah also launched the eRCS portal and inaugurated and lay the foundation stones of 14 storage warehouses with a total storage capacity of 1,400 metric tonnes across 10 districts under the world’s largest grain storage program.
“…I laid the foundation stone for Amul’s world’s largest yogurt production factory, which is set to be built at a cost of approximately ₹700 crore. This factory, equipped with modern technology, will process more than 10 lakh liters of milk daily, as a result of which the income of about 1.20 lakh animal rearers and milk producers will increase. In addition, the eRCS portal has been inaugurated, and an MoU has been signed between ‘Bharat Taxi’ and the West Bengal government,” Shah stated on X.
