India’s food safety regulator Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has ordered Everest Food Products to pull its pre-packed cumin powder from the market after lab tests found the product unsafe for consumption.

In a Facebook media post, the authority also announced that it had suspended the licence of Creative Bakers and Confectioners with immediate effect, citing serious hygiene lapses. The regulator said it remains committed to strict enforcement to protect consumer health nationwide.

A regulatory sample of the cumin powder was collected from the premises of Riverside Resorts & Holiday Homes in Goa. The Food Analyst’s report detected residues of the pesticides Azoxystrobin and Thiamethoxam above the permitted maximum limits and declared the sample “unsafe” under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

The company was given the chance to contest the findings, and the sample was sent to the Referral Food Laboratory. The referral lab upheld the original result, confirming that both pesticides exceeded the prescribed limits.

FSSAI has directed that the entire affected batch be recalled immediately. Everest must keep full records of the recalled stock and submit reports to the regulator. The company must also take corrective steps to prevent a repeat of the issue and file a report once the recall is complete.

In recent months, FSSAI has intensified action against food business operators and e-commerce platforms, and has been publicizing these measures through social media to keep the public informed.
