At PlastIndia 2026 in Delhi, Sacmi Engineering India presented a comprehensive portfolio of cap and preform manufacturing solutions, combining sustainability-focused innovations with high-speed production systems and digital integration.
Ashish Narang, area sales manager at Sacmi Engineering India, said the company’s participation centred on advancing rigid packaging through lightweighting, mono-material solutions and next-generation closures. He said the industry is shifting towards smaller neck formats such as 26/22 mm, enabling material savings of up to 30% in certain applications while maintaining performance.
Sacmi showcased its move towards fully recyclable packaging through PET caps, replacing traditional HDPE closures. Narang explained that aligning bottle and cap materials simplifies recycling and improves circularity, adding that the technology is now ready for commercialisation.
Looking ahead, the company is developing cellulose-based paper closures using a dry-molding process. Narang said this approach reduces water usage and contamination risks compared to conventional wet methods, positioning it as a long-term sustainable alternative.
A key highlight was the SFM15MA slitting and folding system, designed for tethered closures. The machine on display can produce up to 2,850 caps per minute and is aligned with Sacmi’s CCM64MD press, which delivers high productivity with lower energy consumption and a smaller footprint. The line demonstrated tethered slitting of the AB26WT14 GME 30.28 water cap, produced at a cycle time of 1.35 seconds.
Narang said the SFM system enables out-of-mold slitting, allowing manufacturers to switch between tethered and standard caps with minimal changeover time and cost. He said this flexibility allows brands to adapt quickly to evolving regulatory and consumer requirements while maintaining consistent opening performance and user experience.
Tethered caps—already mandatory across Europe—are gaining traction in India, he said. Some domestic players have already invested in tether-compatible molds, allowing a rapid shift to tethered production with minor adjustments when required.
Sacmi emphasized its growing focus on digitalization. Its Smart Pack and Smart Care platforms provide real-time monitoring, advanced diagnostics and data-driven optimisation across cap and preform lines. These systems, combined with AI-based quality control solutions, enhance efficiency, reduce downtime and improve process consistency.
On the preform side, the company introduced the IPS400D press, featuring electric clamping, an advanced cooling system and flexible mould architecture aimed at maximizing productivity while reducing energy consumption.
