Kerala-based Navya Bakes & Confectioneries started as an independent bakery in 1984 by CV Ouseph in Karukutty. In 2006, Giji Biju took over as the director and expanded it to more than 40 outlets in Thrissur and Ernakulam with a central processing facility in Moonamparambu, Karukutty.

The 40-year-old bakery crafts premium bakery products and plans to establish an additional 100 outlets across Kerala by the end of 2025, Chacko Thangachan, GM – operations at Navya Bakes & Confectioneries told IndiFoodBev at Indusfood exhibition in Greater Noida.

The bakery doesn’t use preservatives and trans fats and incorporates natural colors and flavors, Thangachan said. Navya produces 600 different food products, including an extensive range of biscuits, halwas and snacks such as puffs, rolls, burgers and sandwiches. The bakery offers ladoos, neyappams and steamed snacks for health-conscious customers.

The company aims to enhance traditional foods while preserving their inherent texture, aroma, taste, and appearance, Thangachan said. Navya specializes in jackfruit products, including chakkavaratiyath, dried jackfruit, jackfruit burfi, jackfruit jam, jackfruit halwa and cake, jackfruit cookies, achappam, kuzhalappam, vattayappam, and festive specialties such as kalthappam and indriyappam, he said, adding they have a range of tapioca-based products.

The bakery chain has a specialized quality control department dedicated to ensuring improved food quality, he said, adding the company holds ISO 22000:2018 and HACCP certifications to ensure the safety of its products. Navya exports its products to Gulf countries, the UK, Ireland, New Zealand, Canada, Australia, and Europe.

Thangachan said the bakery participated in the Indusfood show to get in touch with business associates and distributors in North India. “We have a farm with 300 cows to meet the needs of our bakery production,” he said, adding the company employs 800 people.
