The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the Union ministry of commerce and industry, has facilitated the export of 20 metric tons of fortified rice from Chhattisgarh to Papua New Guinea.

This shipment marks a significant milestone in India’s ongoing efforts to enhance its agricultural export portfolio and strengthen its reputation as a reliable supplier of high-quality, fortified, and value-added food products in global markets, according to the government.

Chhattisgarh has consistently worked to promote the export of both regular and fortified rice, allowing farmers, millers, and exporters from the state to gain increased visibility and recognition in international trade.

The successful shipment to Papua New Guinea highlights Chhattisgarh’s growing role in the global nutrition-focused food supply chain and supports India’s agricultural export ambitions.

Abhishek Dev, chairman of APEDA, praised the exporter Sponge Enterprises Raipur and all stakeholders involved in this achievement. He stated that the successful export from Chhattisgarh demonstrates India’s increasing ability to deliver premium-quality, science-based, and nutrition-oriented food solutions to international consumers.

Dev reiterated APEDA’s commitment to supporting exporters through quality assurance systems, capacity enhancement, value-chain development, and strategic market linkages, which aim to further solidify India’s position in the global agri-trade ecosystem.

Mukesh Jain, president of The Rice Exporters Association of Chhattisgarh (TREA-CG), expressed appreciation for APEDA’s continued support and facilitation. He said this export from Chhattisgarh is set to expand into new markets, reflecting the confidence of global buyers in India’s product integrity and supply capabilities. He also commended APEDA’s role in advancing agricultural exports from Chhattisgarh.

Fortified rice is produced by blending rice flour with micronutrients such as iron, folic acid, and vitamin B12. The fortified mixture is extruded and shaped to resemble natural rice grains, which are then mixed with regular rice at a designated ratio to improve the nutritional profile of this staple food. The export from India showcases the nation’s technological expertise in food fortification and reinforces its commitment to contributing to global food and nutritional security.

The successful export of this consignment from Chhattisgarh to Papua New Guinea marks another notable achievement for India’s agricultural export sector. It reflects the collaborative efforts between APEDA, the Government of Chhattisgarh, and the private sector in establishing India as a dependable and responsible supplier of safe, nutritious, and high-quality food products to the world.
