Yamato, a worldwide manufacturer of multihead weighers with own subsidiaries and business partners in over 80 countries, including in India, displayed its Alpha advance series multihead weigher and J-series inline checkweigher at the InterFoodTech exhibition, held from 5 – 7 June at IICC, Yashobhoomi, Dwarka in New Delhi.
The J-series inline checkweigher is used for checking the weight of the product inline during the packaging process. The Alpha advance series multihead weigher is used to check the combination of the product that is being weighed and packed, Debajyoti Sen, general manager – sales, at Yamato informed Packaging South Asia.
The company has a host of other products – such as metal detectors and small bench scales – targeted at the food packaging market, which it doesn’t display at food packaging exhibitions.
Yamato’s manufacturing units are based in Japan and Shanghai. In its Okhla office in New Delhi, Yamato sells products manufactured at its plants abroad. It does the installation, servicing and supplying of spare parts for its Indian customers and in SAARC countries such as Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Bhutan.
Yamato has a wide customer base in India. It supplies its weighing solutions to snack food companies such as Haldiram’s, ITC, Bikaji, and Bikano, frozen food companies and seafood manufacturers, Sen said. The company’s weighing solutions are equipped to handle only granular products and are not suitable for powder-based products at the present moment, he said.
“Our main competition for multihead weigher is with Ishida,” Sen said, adding both are Japanese companies. Chinese products are not as good as Ishida and Yamato in terms of quality, he claimed. Mettler-Toledo is another competitor for checkweighing systems, Sen said.
Overall, the packaging industry in India is growing with remarkable year-on-year growth, he explained. “In the coming years, the industry will see double-digit growth, which is good for us as our business is primarily in the snack food, and packaging industries,” he said.
