German beverage processing, filling, and packaging specialist Krones is expanding in India with the construction of a US$36.33 million (Rs 315 crore approx) bottling equipment manufacturing plant in Vemagal, Karnataka. The plant is expected to be completed and operational by 2026.
The groundbreaking ceremony was held on 20 February by Karnataka’s minister for large and medium industries M B Patil in the presence of attended senior Krones officials, including Ralf Goldbrunner, executive board member and Markus Winter, CEO of Krones Thailand, media reports said.
The project is expected to create approximately 550 jobs and is part of the broader US$118 billion investment initiatives announced at this year’s Global Investors Meet (GIM) Invest Karnataka event.
Patil had led a delegation to Germany in December 2023, which led to the investment. One report said the facility will be developed in three phases, covering 110,000 square meters upon completion. The production area will span 70,000 square meters, with 40,000 square meters dedicated to green spaces.
Peter Moertl from Krones’ press relations team stated, “The Indian economy has shown robust growth in recent years, and this trend is expected to continue. The World Bank projects a 7% growth rate for FY 2024/25, with strong momentum anticipated through FY 2026/27, placing India among the world’s fastest-growing economies.”
In July last year, the company’s subsidiary, Krones Recycling, had commenced business operations as a newly founded subsidiary with its headquarters in Flensburg, Germany.
The subsidiary will take over all activities related to plastics recycling, while continuing to leverage Krones’ global production, sales, and service network.
