Sealed Air, a global leader in innovative packaging solutions, showcased its product range for food and industrial applications at Anuga FoodTec 2024 in Mumbai. Known for its commitment to sustainability and reducing waste, Sealed Air presented packaging solutions that ensure product safety while addressing global resource challenges. The company, which operates a manufacturing facility in Bangalore and is headquartered in Mumbai, highlighted its protective and food packaging systems tailored for industries such as fresh red meat, poultry, seafood, and dairy.
At the Sealed Air stall, visitors were introduced to various advanced packaging solutions, including bubble wraps, Cryovac food packaging, Instapak foam packaging, inflatable cushioning, shrink films, and temperature assurance systems. One highlight was the Cryovac vertical form-fill-seal machine, which has nearly seven installations across India.
H Venkataraman, country manager and area director at Sealed Air, said, “The Cryovac brand form-fill-seal systems offer high-speed versatility for packaging liquid food products in flexible pouches. These machines are designed for easy, fast changeovers between food products and roll stock, offering a wide range of options for packaging both hot and cold foods, including those with particulates.”
Venkataraman emphasized the advantages of Cryovac films, describing them as ideal for packaging soups, sauces, condiments, and even small solid foods in liquid. “Lighter than rigid metal cans or glass jars, these films offer greater distribution, storage, and disposal efficiency. With nearly 100% product yield, they significantly reduce waste,” he said.
In addition to the form-fill-seal machines, Sealed Air showcased its skin packaging solutions for poultry, seafood, and various food products. Venkataraman stressed the sustainability and extended shelf life provided by these packaging solutions, designed to meet growing demand in the food sector.
During the exhibition, Venkataraman expressed confidence in Sealed Air’s future in India, citing the country’s increasing packaging intensity per capita. “We are currently in the Amrit Kaal, benefiting from a demographic dividend. I believe there is only growth ahead for both our industrial and food packaging sectors,” he remarked.
He highlighted Sealed Air’s commitment to sustainability, noting that the company aims to make all of its products recyclable or ready for recycling by 2025. “We are working on introducing more products with recycled content and focusing on paper-based solutions. Our goal is to become an even more sustainable packaging supplier,” he added.
As part of its expansion plans, Sealed Air is exploring opportunities to meet the growing demands of the Indian market, while positioning itself for export growth. The company, which has a manufacturing unit in Bangalore, is considering synergistic buyouts or additional investments to support its ambitions.
Venkataraman said, “The kind of projects we were able to sign up are in multiples of the cost that we incurred. So Anuga FoodTec had been a great show for Sealed Air”. He added, “We have been participating every year in this exhibition and will be doing the same in the future as well.”
