India’s processed food exports have shown a declining trend over the past three years, according to data released by the ministry of food processing industries. The export value fell from US$13,078.4 million in 2022–23 to US$10881.8 and US$10,097.97 million in 2024–25.
Key export destinations for Indian processed food products include the USA, UAE, Bangladesh, Libya, Sudan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, among others, reflecting a wide global footprint.
To support exporters, the Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) continues to provide financial assistance under its export promotion scheme. The focus remains on infrastructure development, quality improvement, and expanding market access.
APEDA also facilitates participation in international trade fairs and Buyer–Seller Meets, helping Indian businesses connect with global buyers. Reverse Buyer–Seller Meets held in India further strengthen trade ties by bringing international importers to domestic markets.
Under its BHARATI initiative, APEDA has selected 100 startups in agri-food and agri-tech sectors, offering mentoring and support to boost export readiness. Training programs are also conducted nationwide to help MSMEs and entrepreneurs meet international standards.
The government’s ‘Districts as Export Hubs’ initiative aims to promote exports at the grassroots level by providing support in logistics, e-commerce, and capacity building.
Officials say India has the potential to achieve US$100 billion in combined exports of agriculture, marine, and food products within the next four years, signaling strong long-term growth prospects despite the recent dip.
