Dairy giant Amul on 4 June launched its Amul Gold Milk at the Embassy of India in Madrid, making its entry in Spain and marking a significant milestone in its global journey.

Amul partnered with Spain’s COVAP to launch Amul Milk in Spain and the EU, starting in major cities. The collaboration aims to enhance Amul’s global presence and provide quality dairy products, benefiting both Indian and Spanish dairy farmers.

The launch event was attended by Dinesh K Patnaik, ambassador of India to Spain;  Fernando Heredia Noguer, sub-director general, ministry of agriculture, fisheries and food, Spain; and Ricardo Delgado, president of Cooperativa Ganadera del Valle de Los Pedroches (COVAP), Spain’s first-tier cooperative. Also present were Amit Vyas, managing director, Amul Dairy.

This initiative has been envisioned by Jayen Mehta, managing director, Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Limited (Amul) and has been supported by the chairman, vice chairman, and board of Kaira Milk Union.

Through this strategic partnership, Amul Gold Milk will initially be available in Madrid and Barcelona, with plans to expand to Malaga, Valencia, Alicante, Seville, Cordoba, and Lisbon in Portugal. Amul also aims to introduce its products in Germany, Italy, and Switzerland in the near future. This marks Amul’s second international milk launch, following its successful entry into the United States, and ensures tasteful, quality nourishment for Spanish consumers, the company tweeted.

COVAP president Ricardo Delgado said the collaboration between two cooperatives not only supports the growth of the Amul brand in Spain but also benefits dairy farmers in both countries by combining COVAP’s advanced capabilities with Amul’s trusted global reputation.

Jayen Mehta, managing director, Amul said, “We are very honored and pleased to enter an association with COVAP, a very respected Spanish dairy cooperative. This association will ensure all our Spanish consumers will be nourished and energized with the goodness of Amul Milk.

“This is for the first time that Amul fresh milk is being launched in Europe. It is our great pleasure to bring the taste of India to the world. We at Amul are confident that in 2025, the International Year of Cooperatives, as declared by the United Nations, our team will bring the brand Amul closer to every Indian across the world and showcase the power of cooperation between cooperatives.”

Amul with its 3.6 million dairy farmers is the world’s largest farmer owned dairy cooperative. The Amul brand is rated as world’s strongest dairy brand and India’s largest consumer products group brand with a turnover of more than USD 11 billion and handling more than 12 billion litres of milk every year.

COVAP is Spain’s first-tier cooperative, founded in 1959 in Pozoblanco, Córdoba. With over 2,000 active farmer-members, COVAP is a cornerstone of Andalusia’s agri-food sector. Their dairy plant, one of Europe’s most advanced, processes more than 400 million liters of milk annually. COVAP exports to over 30 countries, including the US, the UK and various Asian markets.
