Yangi, a provider of renewable packaging innovations, has introduced its latest development – a fiber-based food tray designed to replace conventional plastic trays in the food sector. Yangi’s tray is for packaging solutions in ready meals, meat trays, and takeaway options, offering a sustainable alternative that aligns with the rising demand for eco-friendly products in the food industry.
“Today marks a key moment as we unveil our fiber-based food tray, building on the positive response of our fiber-based container lid for dry and ambient food launched in June this year, both products advancing our commitment to deliver sustainable solutions for the food industry,” says Hanna Rüdel, chief commercial officer at Yangi. “As Yangi continues to innovate, we offer packaging producers and brands the opportunity to work closely with our team on product development and validation. This collaborative approach enables early adopters to stay ahead of market trends by incorporating fiber-based packaging as part of their offer,” she adds.
Yangi’s fiber-based food tray, crafted from 100% renewable FSC fibers, is recyclable in existing paper streams worldwide. Yangi is currently exploring lamination, sealing, lids, embossing, debossing, and labeling options—carefully considering how all these elements work together to enhance their food tray offering to meet the current market needs.
With physical prototypes ready for early-stage testing, Yangi invites brands and packaging producers who are interested in their fiber-based food tray to collaborate in refining and validating it for their specific product requirements; together moving closer to full product validation and market launch. By utilizing Yangi’s dry forming technology Cellera, currently operational in the company’s state-of-the-art production facility in Varberg, Sweden, small-scale production for market testing becomes a possibility.
Yangi highlights that Cellera significantly reduces environmental impact compared to conventional plastic packaging and wet molding methods, enabling them to deliver high-performance products that are both cost- and resource-efficient while significantly lowering carbon emissions. Innovation drives Yangi forward and of course, their R&D team is also continually advancing solutions for more complex designs, deeper-formed products, and developing barriers for products with longer shelf life.
Johann Kaiser, CEO at Yangi, highlights how the company is a market leader in dry forming technology, “With our fully industrialized machine platform Cellera and customized packages of value-added services, we provide an all-in-one solution for packaging producers ready to embrace fiber-based packaging. We’re actively partnering with forward-thinking leaders who want to shape the future of sustainable packaging, offering them a competitive edge in their market.”
