Switzerland-based Baumer is into automation-related products, including sensors, encoders, vision systems, and gluing systems for the automation and packaging industry. The Indian headquarters of the company are based in Pune with branch offices in Bengaluru in the South and Noida in Uttar Pradesh in the North. The newly-opened Noida office is looking after Baumer’s automation-related products and gluing products for the print packaging industry.
Baumer’s gluing systems for folding cartons
Baumer displayed gluing systems from its hhs vertical at PackMach 2023, held from 4 – 6 September in New Delhi’s Pragati Maidan. “We have introduced a new concept – solutions for pallet stabilization. These are tamper-evident solutions that combine cold glue and hot melt dispensing to avoid counterfeiting. The combination of cold glue and hot melt systems is more useful for tamper-proof activities as hot melt has certain limitations wherein due to higher heat levels, you can open the box that is being glued by hot melt,” said Deepak Ranade, regional manager west – Gluing System at Baumer.
Baumer hhs is very strong in the folding cartons segment in the FMCG, food and pharma industries, Ranade told Packaging South Asia. Parksons Packaging, TCPL, ITC are some of its leading customers that deal in folding cartons. For end-of-line packaging, the company is working with IPCA Laboratories, Indoco Remedies, MDH Spices, along with other leading spices brands.
Baumer’s automation solutions
The company has position sensors, including photoelectric sensors, ultrasonic sensors, inductive sensors, capacitive sensors, magnetic sensors; process sensors for flow, level, pressure, temperature, and conductivity; analysis sensors; industrial cameras in vision technology and smart cameras.
Buamer’s smart cameras can read 1D codes, 2D codes, barcodes, QR codes, pharma code, or any type of codes that come in the packaging vertical, Dhananjay Jadhav, head, Technical – Gluing Systems at Baumer, said, while adding that OCR/OCV (Optical Character Verification) is essential to pharma packaging.
The company’s industrial cameras range from .3 megapixels to 65 megapixels. In motion technology, incremental encoders, bearingless encoders, and heavy-duty encoders form the product portfolio.
“If we speak about the packaging vertical, Baumer can deliver solutions not only for FFS (both vertical and horizontal) but also for bottling and labeling operations. Photoelectric fork sensors for paper label detection with 10 mm to 120 mm fork width, ultrasonic label gap sensors for transparent labels on a transparent background where photoelectric sensors don’t work are some applications for efficient bottling and labeling operations. We are catering to the leading OEMs not only in pharma and food verticals but in beverages and cosmetics as well,” Jadhav said.
Baumer has 12 different manufacturing facilities based out of Europe. Swiss companies are known for their excellence and accuracy and the same goes with Baumer’s products as well, Jadhav told Packaging South Asia, adding that whatever products the company is bringing to India have been manufactured in Europe with Swiss technology. HUL, Nestle, ACG, Patanjali, and Swastik Technopack are some of the companies that employ Baumer’s automation solutions in their operations.
“This is the first time that we have participated in PackMach show. Our focus is on providing sustainable solutions and Baumer hhs is one of the front runners in providing sustainable packaging solutions,” Ranade concluded.
