CG Foods India, the Indian arm of Nepal-headquartered multinational conglomerate Chaudhary Group (CG) – maker of the popular Wai Wai noodles — is charting an upward growth trajectory, aiming for a revenue of Rs 1,200 crore by FY 2025-26.

Driven by growing consumer acceptance of its diverse product portfolio, the maker of noodles, bhujiya, cheese balls, and other snacks already clocked a revenue of Rs 800 crore in FY 2024-25, up from Rs 500 crore in FY 2023-2024.

Beginning with its first plant in Sikkim, CG Foods India has strategically established offices in Siliguri, Delhi, and Kolkata to meet the burgeoning domestic and international demand.

In a conversation with IndiFoodBev, Varun Chaudhary, CEO of CG Foods, emphasized the company’s expansion plans in a competitive market.

Wai Wai is the third-largest instant noodles brand in the highly competitive Indian market,” Chaudhary said. “Our company recorded a revenue of Rs 800 crore for FY 2024-25, up from Rs 500 crore in FY 2023-2024, which reflects our growing acceptance among Indian consumers. We are now targeting Rs 1,200 crore revenue by FY 2025-26, and to increase our market share, we are expanding into new categories and trade channels.”

India’s instant noodles market is dominated by major players such as Nestlé’s Maggi and ITC’s Yippee. To thrive in this intense environment, CG Foods is focusing on portfolio diversification and product innovation. “We aim to become a diversified food business that offers delicious and top-quality products,” Chaudhary added.

The group has seen a strong adoption in East and Northeast India, which collectively contribute 50-60% of its total revenue. CG Foods has also expanded its manufacturing and distribution footprint across other parts of India, including Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. The company operates 13 manufacturing units across seven locations in India, utilizing advanced production technologies for quality and efficiency.

Beyond its flagship Wai Wai noodles, CG Foods has diversified its offerings significantly, now boasting over 250 products in categories such as snacks, sauces, pastas, and seasonings. Recent successful launches include Wai Wai Xpress, Wai Wai Dynamite (a Korean-inspired super-spicy range), and Wai Wai Chunky Schezwan Sauce, reflecting its evolving consumer palates.

Chaudhary pointed to the company’s investment in innovation. “We invest regularly in R&D, automation, and employee training to ensure optimization. Our packaging innovations primarily focus on improving shelf life, product safety, and convenience. We use new technology to integrate with modern retail and eCommerce channels, which has enabled us to ensure faster distribution and better inventory management.”

Looking ahead, CG Foods’ plans include strategic acquisitions, increasing exports, and entering new international markets such as Central and Eastern Europe. The brand currently exports Wai Wai to over 30 countries. The group is exploring opportunities to strengthen its presence in Sri Lanka and penetrate India’s modern retail chains and eCommerce channels.

“To achieve this goal of transitioning from a single-product company to a diversified food business, we plan to launch new products and expand into new categories,” Chaudhary concludes.
