Sohan Lal Commodity Management (SLCM), India’s leading comprehensive service provider in the global post-harvest space for agricultural commodities, has been honored with the ‘Sustain Agriculture Award 2021’ by FICCI, India’s oldest and largest industry association catering to diverse business domains.
The prestigious award was conferred on SLCM for its proprietary ‘AgriReach’ process management system. In India, where post-harvest losses are pegged at nearly Rs 1 lakh crore, deployment of the ‘AgriReach’ framework of services has helped substantially reduce such losses to 0.5% at warehousing facilities under SLCM’s management.
‘AgriReach’ combines a series of processes, audits, and real-time tracking of the facilities to give error-free results and minimize the risk of damage to stored crops. It uses techniques like geo-fencing, real-time monitoring, bar-coded storage receipts to avoid thefts or pilferage, and internal audits with a ‘maker and checker’ policy at each level of operation.
Since April 2021, the company started executing its warehousing contracts using the proprietary ‘AgriSuraksha’ solution, another product under the Agri Reach umbrella that incorporates the latest Internet of Things (IoT)-based surveillance technology. This enables real-time monitoring and interaction with the personnel at storage sites agnostic infrastructures like electricity availability, or the grains may be stored in open ground under the sky with no roof on top.
SLCM scaling up its cutting-edge technology-based solutions and applications
SLCM, in October 2021, rolled out the beta version of its path-breaking ‘AgriReach Mobile Quality Check App’ for agricultural commodities under the ‘AgriReach’ umbrella. The QC App enables 360-degree evaluation by a cross-section of stakeholders, including processors, traders, exporters, importers, government agencies, and financial institutions such as banks.
Commenting on being a recipient of this honor, Sandeep Sabharwal, chief executive officer, SLCM Group, said, “We are delighted to receive this honor from FICCI, which is India’s oldest and largest apex business association catering to diverse business domains. This recognition validates our belief that the use of cutting edge technologies like Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning (ML) based real-time process management solutions can be extended to the agriculture sector for Preservation, Management, and Security (PMS) of food grain stock.
This award encourages our team to rapidly scale up our cutting-edge technology-based solutions and applications and take it to the next level for mass adoption by multiple stakeholders, which will be a force multiplier to demonstrate development at the bottom of the pyramid.”
The award was received by Salman Ulla Khan, chief business officer, SLCM, along with Rakesh Kumar Rana, chief business officer, Digital Initiatives, SLCM, on behalf of the organization from a group of dignitaries from the entire agriculture ecosystem and distinguished members of FICCI agriculture committee present on occasion on Thursday the 18 of November 2021.
