A crucial aspect of delivering sustainable products is sustainable packaging. Unsustainable packaging is resource-intensive and wasteful. Now, people are more concerned about the environment and looking for better alternatives to stop harming the natural environment with unsustainable products.

The Plastics Recycling Awards Europe are offered yearly in recognition of extraordinary achievements within the plastic recycling industry in Europe. The Plastics Recycling Awards Europe aims to throw the limelight on the recent developments in the utility of recycled product design, material, and unique manufacture all over Europe. They bring together the significant players from the recycling and plastics sectors.

Greiner Packaging has qualified for the top finalist spot in the Product Technology Innovation of the Year 2022 category with K3 r100.

Greiner K3 r100 won Plastics Recycling Awards

K3 r100 was selected as the finalist for the top product innovation in 2022. Separating cardboard-plastic blends has relied significantly on consumer assistance. K3 r100, however, allows the two materials to separate independently, even as they are being transported to the recycling facility. In short, the plastic and cardboard can be easily assigned for the right material streams during the initial sorting process before recycling.

The K3 r100 design keeps the simple tear-off feature that enables customers to continue disassembling the packaging by themselves.

An environmentally-friendly approach to the packaging sector

Greiner Packaging has launched a packaging solution with K3 r100 that has a significantly lower carbon footprint and can be recycled more successfully than competing solutions. The design has received certification from Cyclos-HTP* with a recyclability rating of above 90% and a Class A grade from RecyClass**, representing the highest level of recyclability for a packaging item.

The organization is pleased with its efforts in offering innovative packaging solutions, and they are glad to know that it is attracting a lot of attention in the industry. The company’s hard work is paying off.

Why is sustainable packaging important?

Consumers and companies need to be aware of the qualities of sustainable packaging. It ensures community and individual health and safety. Bisphenol is one of the chemicals that is put to use while manufacturing polycarbonate plastics along with epoxy resins. According to studies, exposure to these harmful materials increases the risk of people getting affected with diabetes, heart disease, prostate and breast cancer, miscarriage, and psychological problems in children.

Sustainable packaging that uses recycled materials possesses the potential to reduce resource consumption and carbon footprints. This sustainable packaging can be made by using clean technologies, employing best practices, and proper safety controls.

Sustainable packaging can allow manufacturers to cut operational costs, promote their product sustainability, and improve customer patronage.

With more people becoming concerned about the environment, consumers expect sustainable products and services. As a result, many organizations and businesses have opted for the best techniques in creating sustainable packaging to keep the environment free of unhealthy things.

** This rating applies to the plastic part of the packaging only, as the recyclability of the cardboard wrap depends on the infrastructure in place in individual countries and varies within the European Union.
