Toppan Printing, a provider of communication, security, packaging, décor materials, and electronics solutions, presented its latest security solutions for intelligent packaging at the AIPIA World Congress 2019. The AIPIA Congress took place on 18 and 19 November 2019 at the Amsterdam Conference Centre Beurs van Berlage, Amsterdam.
Toppan demonstrated how its security and packaging solutions make connected products a part of the digital transformation in packaging. The solution entails integrating an NFC tag into every product to give it a digital identity that facilitates connection to the internet, links to customers at every point of the product’s journey, and dynamic solutions for brands and end consumers. Connected products enable authentication, traceability, and consumer engagement. This means that brands can introduce product verification, protect against refilling and tampering, monitor the supply chain in real-time, prevent gray market distribution, and engage with consumers directly to enhance the value of feedback and improve digital marketing strategies.

Toppan showcased NFC-enabled solutions for wine and spirits, cosmetics and cosmetics packaging, and an eco-friendly paper-based antenna at the AIPIA World Congress. InTact, Cachet-Tag, and CorkTag by Toppan facilitate authentication and tamper detection, help to prevent fraudulent refilling and gray market diversion, and enhance customer engagement for the wine and spirits sector. Toppan also presented its Secure ID Platform for providing brands with a cloud-based turnkey solution to digitize physical products and allow brands to engage directly with consumers via the tap of a smartphone.
Roland Lartigue, business development director at Toppan Europe, spoke about packaging and Internet of Things on 18 November. The 30-minute talk looked at how the interaction between real-world products and the digital world creates new customer experiences and how Toppan, following the adoption of its NFC-enabled security devices in the wine industry, is now tackling the issue of counterfeiting in the cosmetics sector.
“The AIPIA World Congress was an excellent opportunity for Toppan to demonstrate its innovation in both security and packaging. We are now seeing a world in which brands, products, and consumers are connected in new ways. By adding a digital identity to each product via its packaging, Toppan’s solutions provide the protection, peace of mind, and added value that all stakeholders are looking for in today’s market,” said Takuya Onuki, business development manager for Toppan’s Security Products business.
