A team from the Actega division won the prestigious Altana Innovation Award for creating innovative food and beverage can production techniques using Rotarflow technology, making the process more efficient and sustainable.
The Altana Innovation Award is organized annually and honours ground-breaking technological innovations. This year, a particular team from the Actega division won the award for developing an ingenious technology called Rotarflow.
The invention helps enhance the efficiency of the production of food and beverage cans and makes it sustainable. Its technology helps keep a check on the amount of Artistica water-based sealant. It monitors and controls the amount of the sealant using data analytics, productivity reports, and data visualization.
Actega’s Rotarflow converts present manual process into a digital system
Turning towards a digital method to monitor the production activities of cans and lids without pausing the process helps save costs and improve production efficiency. Production processes are often monitored analogously or manually by halting them, leading to delays and reduced efficiency.
Employees manually adjust the dry weight of sealing compounds in the production of can lids by stopping the process. Millions of can lids are produced between test periods without any control over the sealant, making the production process time-consuming and less efficient.
The new Rotarflow technology introduced by the winning team from Spain helped resolve the monitory and control sealant usage issue. The innovative technology converts the present manual process into a digital system that fully automates the entire process, resulting in the stop operation of can production. It monitors the amount of sealant simultaneously along with the production without stopping the process.
Bringing innovative technology of Rotarflow to the market
Dr Petra Severit, chief technology officer at Altana, said in a statement that the path to the market launch of Rotarflow is exemplary of Altana’s innovation culture. She said that the winning team’s digital solution enables growth potential for the company’s customers and will help make daily life more sustainable. She further stated that the innovation has proven itself and is a sign that the solution supports its customers in the production process.
The all-new Rotarflow technology, which is highly efficient and time-saving, has proved it in its six-month pilot phase. An interdisciplinary team of experts in IT, process control, engineering, and technical service developed the ingenious technology. The team from Actega in Spain observed the production process. It took feedback from customers to develop an innovative solution for production delays in the form of Rotarflow technology.
The Altana Innovation Award has been organized for the past ten years and honors ingenious innovations and technologies that help make life more sustainable. The Rotarflow technology is expected to make the production process fast and easy. It will also help in making the production of cans for food and beverages more sustainable.
