The Government of India is convening a two-day National Workshop on Seafood Exports on 5–6 June 2026, in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, aimed at strengthening the country’s seafood export ecosystem and accelerating growth in global markets.
The workshop is being organized by the department of fisheries under the ministry of fisheries, animal husbandry and dairying, in collaboration with the ministry of commerce and industry, with support from the government of Andhra Pradesh.
The event will see participation from key Union Ministers, including Andhra Pradesh chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal, and fisheries minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, along with other senior ministers and officials. Representatives from central agencies such as MPEDA, FSSAI, EIC, BIS, and NABARD, as well as exporters, start-ups, and industry stakeholders, will also take part.
The workshop aims to develop state-specific export strategies, improve value addition and traceability, and recommend policy and infrastructure measures to boost competitiveness. Special focus will be placed on integrating MSMEs and start-ups into the export ecosystem.
Day one features stakeholder consultations and presentations from various ministries, alongside the distribution of benefits under schemes such as PMMKSSY and Kisan Credit Cards. Day two will host technical sessions on value addition, certification, and the role of emerging sectors in export growth, followed by a closing session outlining key recommendations.
India’s seafood exports reached a record ₹73,890 crore (US$ 8.45 billion) in 2025–26, with volumes touching 19.72 lakh metric tons. The government has set an ambitious target of ₹1 lakh crore in exports, and the workshop is expected to play a key role in achieving this goal.
Andhra Pradesh, the host state and the country’s leading seafood producer, continues to strengthen its infrastructure with major investments under PMMSY and FIDF. Despite global trade challenges, India’s seafood sector has remained resilient, supported by government initiatives and policy measures.
The workshop is expected to lay the foundation for a more competitive, inclusive, and future-ready seafood export sector, reinforcing India’s position in global markets.
